Alan Turing

Alan Turing

Life and Accomplishments

Alan Turing was a British mathematician who laid the foundation for modern computer science. During World War II, he worked at Bletchley Park where he led the effort to crack the Enigma code used by the German navy. To do this, he designed the Bombe, an electromechanical device that could decipher encrypted messages much faster than a human. After the war, he worked on early computer designs and explored the idea of artificial intelligence, creating a test to see if a machine could exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to a human.

Tim Berners-Lee

Tim Berners-Lee

Life and Accomplishments

Tim Berners-Lee is a British computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web while working at CERN in 1989. He realized that scientists needed a better way to share data, so he created the first web server, the first web browser, and the HTML language. Instead of patenting his invention for profit, he ensured that the technology remained open and free for everyone to use. Today, he continues to advocate for web safety and accessibility through the World Wide Web Foundation.

Vinton Cerf

Vinton Cerf

Life and Accomplishments

Vinton Cerf is an American computer scientist often called a "Father of the Internet." In the 1970s, he co-designed the TCP/IP protocols, which are the fundamental rules that allow different networks to connect and exchange data. This architecture allowed the internet to become a global "network of networks." Throughout his career, he has held major roles at NASA and Google, focusing on the future of the internet and even working on communication standards for outer space.
